{living well} four ways we're exploring food + nutrition irl // here for the journey...

FOOD IS FUEL, NOT THERAPY.
— unknown

i keep reminding myself of this very thing as i’ve struggled with my relationship with food, nutrition and health in general. its not something i’ve learned much about other than the idea that vegetables are good and junk/fast food are not. but, is that enough?!? for something that plays such a huge role in our everyday lives, should we not know more about food + nutrition. should we not take the time to explore and discover more?!?

i decided to spend some time thinking about all the questions I have when it concerns food and the idea of nutrition in our lives. spending more time in our garden has done nothing but increase my curiosities for the massive role that food plays in our everyday. the reality is that i’ve grown to hate FOOD. its been a struggle to budget for it, a challenge to store it, an inconvenience to cook it, a headache to navigate the world of severe food allergies and so much more.

but, this has to change.

as i sat with my own curiosities i discovered four avenues that i’d like to begin to explore more about food and nutrition in homeschool and life.

food as fuel // human body

food as fellowship // through cooking + conversation

food as freedom // exploring what gives life + lesson

food as inheritance // as a building block toward generational wealth

i realized very early the power of food to evoke memory, to bring people together, to transport you to other places, and I wanted to be a part of that.

these curiosities bubbled up inside my heart and mind while/after watching movies, television programs, podcasts, documentaries, browsing through courses, and searching for books. below are a list of the sources that sparked a majority of my curiousities. the list is diverse, unconventional, and very “think outside the box-is” and pretty much sums up the way we live + learn.

films //

-the seeds we keep

-biggest little farm

docs //

-high on the hog (netflix)

shows //

-waffles and mochi (netflix)

courses //

-masterclass // home cooking

-skillshare // garden watercolors

resource + non-fiction books //

fiction books //

food for us comes from our relatives, whether they have wings or fins or roots. that is how we consider food. food has a culture. it has a history. it has a story.

i’m excited to see where our curiosity takes us. to discover food and nutrition as a source of fuel, fellowship, freedom and inheritance. we are here for this journey to live + to learn.

with all the love,
