HOMESCHOOL MOM & DAD GETAWAY W/ US / CATSKILL, NY ...

you know how companies and corporations hold team building retreats… well this is ours! we are the team! and, this was our retreat… I guess ;) as a way to celebrate our anniversary and the beginning of preparing for the next year of homeschool + life and we needed this getaway! I wanted to do something a little different. well, maybe a lot different, lol. we stayed in a getaway cabin in catskill, ny for a little rest, relaxation and ended up with a whole lotta adventure on the side.

the way we laughed so hard we almost cried y’all.

the way Brian acted like we were in the real wilderness, lol.

the way we were supposed to do absolutely nothing for the whole of 48 hours and we ended up doing the most and hiking up mt everest… friiieeennnnnnddddssss!!!!

the memories were mounting by the minute and I low key loved every moment of it.

meet Marlene…

( the beautiful stack of books that made this homeschool mama feel right at home even though I didn’t get to read a single one of them.)

forever driving miss daisy. that’s me. i’m daisy!

the ride up to ny was beautiful. the warmth of the sun. windows down and a whole hour of trying to figure out why we can’t seem to get his bluetooth to sync so we can listen to music from the playlist on his phone and not mine. ha!

we arrived at our getaway house, MARLENE, took a tour of our quaint lil cabin, spotted chipmunks and I unpacked our groceries while Brian got the fire started.

we bought our books along for the journey and made our way through a chapter or two. the view was glorious and we tried not to think of all the bugs and beetles that surrounded us. I guess there is a tiny downside to so much nature study and the arthropod units that the kids and I love so much. the bugs and beetles are super cute when they are watercolored on the pages of a book but maybe not so much when they are staring at you in real, actual, life out ‘in the wilderness’ as Brian calls it, LOLLLLLL.

one of the things I adore the most about Brian is the way he makes me laugh! somedays im laughing at him and most days im laughing with him, its almost impossible to live a life without laughter when he is around. another thing ive been obsessed with is watching him become a reader. mostly non-fiction, autobiographies… I love that it gives him quiet moments to think & to rest, time to learn and to grow.

THIS VIEW FRIENDDDDSSSS… THIS VIEW!

I made a solid breakfast in the morning and we set out to hike Kaaterskill Falls. and, when I tell you this adventure took me by surprise, lol. a whole mess of beautiful memories friennndddsssss.

it was our mission to fill our live & learn water bottle with water from the falls. the falls were breathtaking and the moments felt crazy hard and magical all at the same time. I made it through some pretty steep stairs and tried to keep my composure as I made my way around the bends. we made it!

mission accomplished // we headed back to our getaway cabin to rest, relax and enjoy crab quesadillas for dinner by the fire with my best friend. a weekend I didn’t know I needed as we head into our 10th year of homeschool and 16th year of doing life together.

with all the love,
